"Queen of spades" cropped cardigan in Tunisian Crochet

THE MAKING OF A LOVELY CARDIGAN IN TUNISIAN CROCHET In the last little while, as you may have noticed, I have been working on an ambitious project: the creation of a Tunisian crochet garment, using a leaf motif (or "spades", as I preferred to call it) already seen in some wonderful knitting projects. First, I thought about replicating the spade pattern in Tunisian crochet, which was not difficult, as I have created similar patterns before - you can find them, for example, in these projects of mine: Leaf it On Shawl , Leaf it On Scarf , Leaf it On Cowl .  Leaf it On Scarf Next, I thought it best to make a garment that had a simple workmanship, i.e. worked flat, and not in the round, to avoid, at least initially, over-complicating the design. A cardigan, therefore, was the best choice. Next, I chose a yarn that I liked and opted for a fine multicoloured yarn. This was the result: "QUEEN OF SPADES" - THE CAL! I liked the finished garment very much, and so did you, whic

I was always attracted by colourful and impressive designs in crochet, so when I first discovered the "log cabin" technique, I immediately wanted to create a blanket of my own. And I did: about 5 years ago I started crocheting my first log cabin blanket - the one you see in most of my log cabin pictures - and I liked the process so much that I ended up creating a 188x188 cm (74"x74") queen size blanket. I still have that first blanket (all blankets I sold after were replicas of it, see it in my Etsy shop: CROCHET LOG CABIN BLANKET), and even though it is by now hopelessly worn out and it got damaged by my cats, I still love it as the day I started it.

I LOVE LOG CABIN BLANKETS!

Yes, I really love the log cabin design, and there are many reasons for this:

  • Log cabin blankets are easy to crochet - When I started my first blanket I was not as skilled a crocheter as I am today, still it was no problem for me to learn the technique. Isn't this one of the greatest feelings ever? To be able to create something as beautiful and impressive as this afghan with no great efforts and be proud of making it with your own hands? People will be astonished by your creativity and crochet skills.
  • Log cabin blankets can be made with yarn leftovers - Ok, I have something of a personal obsession for this, I hate having beautiful yarn lying around in my house, knowing it's there but I can't use it for a project because I no longer have enough of it. It gives me a sense of incompleteness. But if I can use these scraps of yarn as part of a bigger project, then I am happy, because feel that I didn't waste all that good yarn. I like to finish up things.
  • Log cabin blankets are made of square blocks, meaning they are modular, and you can make as many squares as you want, add blocks as you go, or even get tired of this technique and produce just a jew squares, and still create something beautiful and decorative. If you put together 12 square blocks, for example, you can create a lovely stroller blanket.
  • Log cabin blankets are simply beautiful and impressive to look at - Whether you decide to crochet one in all rainbow colours or to use more sober and minimalist shades, the end result is amazing. Finally, by alternating cold and warm colours, you can create a stunning optical effect, like THIS SMALL LOG CABIN THROW I crocheted some time ago:

CROCHET PATTERN FOR LOG CABIN BLANKET

What took me so long to finally write a pattern for my log cabin blanket? I don't know, really. Pictures of my log cabin works I published on social media these years always received good resonance and were highly appreciated. I know there are tutorials on how to make a log cabin blanket on the internet, even good ones, I suppose. Still, as always I tell myself that maybe I can explain things in a way that is more helpful and understandable to some people, so I think that one tutorial more is better than one less. My followers, who are used to my patterns and like the way I write them, may be more inclined to follow my instructions to create their first log cabin blanket than anyone else's. And so it appears to be! On the first two days after its release, my crochet pattern for a log cabin blanket already sold several times. This makes me so happy, because it's a wonderful response towards what I do and a great personal gratification. So if you want to give it a try, click on the picture below:
