"Queen of spades" cropped cardigan in Tunisian Crochet

THE MAKING OF A LOVELY CARDIGAN IN TUNISIAN CROCHET In the last little while, as you may have noticed, I have been working on an ambitious project: the creation of a Tunisian crochet garment, using a leaf motif (or "spades", as I preferred to call it) already seen in some wonderful knitting projects. First, I thought about replicating the spade pattern in Tunisian crochet, which was not difficult, as I have created similar patterns before - you can find them, for example, in these projects of mine: Leaf it On Shawl , Leaf it On Scarf , Leaf it On Cowl .  Leaf it On Scarf Next, I thought it best to make a garment that had a simple workmanship, i.e. worked flat, and not in the round, to avoid, at least initially, over-complicating the design. A cardigan, therefore, was the best choice. Next, I chose a yarn that I liked and opted for a fine multicoloured yarn. This was the result: "QUEEN OF SPADES" - THE CAL! I liked the finished garment very much, and so did you, whic

CROCHET LOG CABIN BLANKET: IT ALL STARTED HERE

Since I discovered crochet, as a little girl of 8, I totally fell in love with it. There is no other way to describe my feelings. If you ever had a great passion for something in your lives, you know what I mean: it is that craving for doing that one activity over and over again, without ever tiring. Concentrating on that activity and wanting to learn everything there is to know about it never bores you, the learning process is fun and easy. That was me with crochet. Fact is I did abandon crochet as a girl, as children would do (probably because I ran out of yarn at some point), and though I remember wanting to go back to crochet many times in my life later on, I only really did about 8 years ago, when I became a stay-at-home-mom after giving birth to my daughter Alice.

You might have read my story already, either in my profile or in past posts. It is not particularly original: all of a sudden, I found myself with plenty of time and not much to do, apart from attending to my own child. So one day I heard in the news of some crafty trade fair, they were talking about crochet at some point, and bam! I immediately knew how I wanted to spend my time from that moment on. I actually started with knitting (big mistake!): I bought needles and hooks, searched the internet and libraries for tutorials and books on these crafts, and patiently taught myself to knit and, after some time, to crochet. And oh!, how I dived into these crafts with the greatest of joys!

MAXI LOG CABIN BLANKET AS FIRST PROJECT

The queen-sized log cabin blanket you see pictured in this post was not my first project - among my first projects I recall over-sized beanies, horrible amigurumis, hardly fitting girl's tops and other similar monstrosities - but one of the first. I had no pressures in the world (while now I often have to work on custom orders following a tight timeline) and it did not bore me in the least to crochet tile after tile, putting the colours together as I liked them best. When I finished it at last, I took pictures  of it and published them here, on my blog. I was not present on social media at the time, nor did I have an Etsy shop. I think I had only just started my blog at the time. But I immediately recognized that the blanket I had produced was beautiful, and I guess the idea slowly formed in my mind to try and make a job out of my passion for crocheting.

LOG CABIN BLANKET TO PURCHASE OR AS DIY

I still have that first log cabin blanket, of course. I remember someone contacted me on Etsy a couple of years ago and wanted to purchase it but did not want to wait the time I needed to produce it, he wanted MY log cabin blanket, and seemed not to care when I told him that the blanket had been used and showed signs of both age and wear. Well, I did not give in, in spite of the money he was willing to pay for it. Since then I have created and sold other log cabin blankets to customers, but I never parted from that first blanket, which lies here at home as beautiful as ever, in my eyes.
